Primarily our music comes straight from the dusty old hymnals. Since we almost always sing a cappella in four-part harmony, we look for arrangements that fit our voices and carry the messages of salvation and praise. We love the simple, familiar messages of the gospel story and praise for the almighty God that is found in the older music. As much as possible, we try to focus on lyrics that have a strong root in Scripture.
Let me stress, though, that we have no complaint against contemporary praise music. Some of our members even prefer it. We just don't find many modern songs arranged for close harmony, so we work with the materials we have. If you know of contemporary music in SATB arrangements, we would love to give it a try.
